St Marys artist Sherryn Woodward shows off her tweed inspired design.THERE is a certain appeal about tweed,according to St Marys artist Sherryn Woodward.
It’sasoft, heavy and extremely warmmaterial, but Ms Woodward has foundanother use for her favourite clothingfabric.
This year her tweed inspired wearableart will be on display at St Marys’ GoneRustic Studio and Gallery.
The gallery will feature some of theregion’s best wearable art designs and willbe open to the public from September 5-24.
‘‘Out of necessity, I arrived from Indonesiatwo years ago with two bags,’’ she said.‘‘I’ve always had a passion for coats,especially with it being so cold here … I feellike I’ve give tweed a new image – there’sjust something great about it.
‘‘This has really helped us (her and herpartner, Andi) get off our feet as well. (Art)has made us part of the community andhelped us network.’’
Gone Rustic owner and curator RitaSummers said the gallery was an exhibitionn to show the skills of local artists.
‘‘The ideas that have developed are reallygreat,’’ she said.
‘‘Wearable art is a really unique thingthat is starting to gain momentum everywhere.”
