Penrith Panthers women’s basketball team lose semi-final

Picture: Noel Rowsell photoexcellence苏州美甲美睫培训学校.auThe Panthers senior women’s team has fallen at the penultimate hurdle in the 2014 Waratah Championship League (WCL) competition, loosing87-76 to the Hornsby Spiders in the semi-finals.

Rohanee Cox was superb for the Panthers through the majority of the game.

Her departure from the action through fouls signaled the beginning of the end for the Panthers.

Penrith led 22-17, 33-25 and 50-46 at the end of the first three quarters respectively, out-playing the minor premiers and looking likelyfor an upset victory.

The loss of Cox in the fifth minute of the final quarter would prove to be a costly blow, as the Spiders ralliedto take the lead in the closing minutes.

Both teams hit clutch baskets in the final minute, with the full time score subsequently locked at 67-all.

Hornsby could not be contained in extra time, despite some heroics from Alicia Poto and Tahlia Tupaea and would go on to record an 11-point win.

Poto led the Panthers with 29 points, 10 boards and 6 assists, ahead of Cox 22 points and 10 boards and Tupaea with 19 points.

The Panthers Youth League men defeated the Blacktown West Storm 82-76 in the Division Two Youth League semi-finals and would go on to record a last-minute 75-74 win over the Maitland Mustangs in the grand final.
