Listen up, guys

South Western Sydney Local Health District’s cancer services experts ask men to become aware of screening, treatment and management options of prostate cancer. International Prostate Cancer Awareness Month began on Monday. Radiation oncologist Mark Sidhom said about 150 new prostate cancer patients were treated each year at the Liverpool and Macarthur cancer therapy centres.

Art gives insight

Liverpool mayor Ned Mannoun opened the Benevolent Society’s annual See Me, Hear Me exhibition at Liverpool Library. Artworks from 22 people living with mental illness provide an insight into their lives. The exhibition features works from each of the artists, including drawings, paintings and poetry. It will run until September 11. Liverpool Library is at 170 George Street.

Cancer funds

West Hoxton’s Guardian Childcare raised $1100 for the Cancer Council at its disco night for Daffodil Day, held last Thursday. As well as the disco, families and children were treated to face-painting, a sausage sizzle, candy buffet, raffle and an ice-cream stall, costing just a gold-coin donation. Staff wore yellow and the centre was decorated accordingly. Proceeds were handed to the Cancer Council last week.
