KEMPS Creek lawn bowler Jamie-Lee Worsnop has created history.
The 17-year-old became the youngest winner of the Australian Indoor Championships crown after a sublime performance on the greens recently in Tweed Heads.
The St Johns Park bowler defeated Kay Moran (Cabramatta) in a tight two set final to become the youngest winner of the event in either gender.
“To make it up here through the qualifying was a great achievement in itself, but it’s something special to win in at 17,” she said.
The third-generation lawn bowler is a member of the St John Park Junior Bowls Academy and last year won Bowls NSW’s junior female player of the year
Worsnop, who represented the Australian under-18s girls’ team earlier this year, will now get her first Australian senior cap with victory qualifying her for the World Cup next year. It was a double celebration for St Johns Park David Holt winning the men’s title.
St Johns Park Bowling Club Chairman Paul Norris said: “It’s a fantastic achievement…we could possibly be the first club to have wins for both men and women in the same year for this prestigious event.”
