SOUTHWEST canines and their humans will have to wait until next year to attend Paws in the Park after rain forced cancellation of the August 24 event.
The committee met last week and decided to reschedule the popular family day to March 1 next year at the Camden Bicentennial Equestrian Park.
“The committee was in agreement that to do it earlier next year would be better than to try and give the stall holders and sponsors and dog demonstration people short notice for the next month or two,” committee chairwoman and Camden mayor Lara Symkowiak said.
“There are other events in the Camden area and at the BEP events that have to be takeninto account.
“Doing it then will allow us to still do the footy theme and tie into the start of the season and to the same schedule.”
Cr Symkowiak said the March event would be the only Paws in the Park event for 2015.
“We will be writing to stallholders and sponsors to see if they are available and to let them know they are being invited to come back for that date,” she said.
“I invite everyone to put it in their diaries for next year.”
She said Camden MP Chris Patterson was speaking with the NRL, who had signed on as a major sponsor for this year’s event, to see if they were keen to stay on board for the March event.
Former NRL stars Beau Ryan and Mario Fenech were scheduled to attend this year’s event as guest judges for the dog competitions.
Cr Symkowiak said celebrity judges for March 1, 2015 were still to be locked in.
The showbags that were to be given out on August 24 will be stored and given out during the rescheduled event.
