Man pleads not guilty to assault in teenager’s car ordeal

A MAN has pleaded not guilty to assaulting a 16-year-old girl by driving her across the Coast with a group of people who punched her and put a box on her head.

Adam James Orme, 21, was charged with three counts of assault.

At the Supreme Court in Burnie a jury heard he was accused of restrainingthe girl as she tried to leave the vehicle on October 28, 2012.

The group at different locations across the Coast struck her to the body and face, pulled her hair and put a box on her head, the jury heard.

Mr Orme was charged with being involved in an assault in which others pulled the girl from the car by her hair, punched her and pushed her to the ground.

The victim owed money to one of the group members, the jury heard.

The trial continues.
