Police presence at festival

Cabramatta police will have a crime prevention stall as well as its command post at this year’s Cabramatta Moon Festival. The crime prevention stall will be located on John Street while its command post will be in Park Road from 9am to 7pm. Police will be on hand to provide information about the force, as well as taking photos with attendees. The commander, Superintendent Wayne Murray, will also be handing out moon cakes at 3pm.

Officers to hold open day

Fairfield police will hold an open day at Fairfield High School on Saturday. Units that will attend include Polair, the dog unit, highway patrol, mounted police, the media unit, youth and school liaison, marina area command, forensic services group, crime prevention and the counter-terrorism and special tactics unit. There will be rides, showbags, live entertainment and food stalls. The event will take place at Fairfield High School, The Horsley Drive, Fairfield, 10am to 3pm. Details: 9728 8407.

Man arrested over stabbing

A man has been arrested following a stabbing at a brothel in Villawood on Sunday morning. At 12.40am, emergency services were called to the brothel on Christina Road. Police believe a 25-year-old man began arguing with a male employee before he was stabbed in the hand with a knife. The employee was treated at the scene by paramedics and taken to Auburn Hospital. A 33-year-old man was arrested. He was taken to Bankstown Police Station but has since been released pending further inquiries.

Woman hit by van and killed

A woman has died after being hit by a van in Fairfield on Saturday night. At 6.10pm, a 62-year-old woman was crossing Polding Street with two relatives when she was struck by a Toyota Hi-Ace van and thrown onto the roadway. Emergency services were called to the scene and the woman was taken to Fairfield Hospital but died a short time later. The 52-year-old driver of the van was taken to Liverpool Hospital for mandatory blood and urine tests. Anyone with information should call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
