THE statement “I shall strive for the best” is more than a mere motto for Bonnyrigg High School’s High Resolves team.
For the participating year 10 students, dedication to the cause of self-enrichment is paramount.
This year’s team focused on spreading the message to peers that stereotyping others carried many negative effects.
The team hosted a special presentation on the subject for students from years 7-10 on Thursday, July 31.
The message was then taken to the broader community on Thursday, August 14, at Stocklands Shopping Centre.
The presentations were the result of a great deal of hard work by the group members, and involved a number of activities aimed at getting the audience thinking about the implications of stereotyping.
Each presentation was deemed a success, with many students continuing the discussion after the event.
The Stocklands visit also ended with more than 300 people making a collective pledge against stereotyping.
The school’s High Resolves mentor, Heather Hempel, spoke highly of the participating students.
“They’re taking action and making a change in the community,” she said.
