Looking the part: Students dressed in a variety of costumes to celebrate National Science Week.BONNYRIGG High School students went all out celebrating National Science Week this year, dressing up for the occasion and chowing down on “space ice- cream”.
To mark the week, which ran from August 16 to 22, students were encouraged to attend school on August 21 dressed up as important scientific figures, be they fictional or non-fictional.
The aim of the week was the increase general understanding of scientific concepts.
Students who took part in the dress up made their own costumes and were given the chance to teach primary school students about their chosen figure.
“The day was a great success,” said year 10 student Yianni. “It broadened my perspective of science in general in an enjoyable way.”
Adding a fun element to the day, votes were collected to determine the best dressed. Winners [still to be determined] will receive iTunes gift cars and movie vouchers.
Available in a variety of flavours, including chocolate, rainbow and banana split, space ice-cream, was also a hit with the students. Sold for $5 a serve, the ice cream differed from the regular dessert, as it was frozen in liquid nitrogen.
