The bus trip over showed that the boys were pumped and ready to perform although they may have been a little heavier in the sugar department. Once their warm up was complete they took to the field behind their leader Jono Coe. From the whistle the Redbacks showed some great structure protecting the ball and taking it to ground. Robbie attacked the game with his usual vigour giving 100% running strongly through the middle and making the hard tackles.
After two tries to the Redbacks the bigger Goulburn team put on a few tries to take the lead. Just as it looked like they would run away with the game the Redbacks with a late surge of confident play managed to stay in contact. All the boys showed moments of determination and great rugby to keep the scores close. Harrison with his dependable cleanouts and strong runs from the whistle cleared the way for Ferg to keep us on the front foot with darting runs through the middle. It was Luke, Jono and Leroy that made great work of broken play making huge amounts of ground. The boys in the scrum and the lineout put fantastic pressure on the opposition with the Goulburn boys retreating to their dead ball line on several occasions.
Jake and Josh gave their all as usual with determination and grit on the ball. It was James, Sam and Nelson manning the backline as they rushed up and took space from the Goulburn team. With one game left Greg & I are excited to see the boys take on their arch nemesis Crookwell. Tries Robbie 2, Luke, Jono with a well celebrated conversion by Nelson.
With the night still young the boys farewelled the U12 Redbacks team from the Goulburn competition by eating enough McFlurries to power a small nuclear reactor. With the sugar in their bellies a quiet peaceful bus trip home was shared by all. Thanks for the great night lads.
On Friday night the boys played one of their toughest matches to date when they came up against a determined Brumbies outfit. The opposition came out firing and ran in two quick tries before we knew what hit us. This was a wakeup call to the boys who then regrouped and rallied hard. The boys gave everything they had in both attack and defense, they were wounded, there was blood, sweat and tears but the boys continued to get up and go again.
Unfortunately when the final whistle blew we were down 19-30 but I will take my hat off to the toughness and never say die attitude of the Braidwood lads. You tried your hardest boys, chins up, there’s always next week. Tries Callum 1, Kane 1, Ned 1. Goals Ned 2. Coaches award Ned Jeffery. Lolly shop award Forbes Gordon.
