Over the past month, the school has hosted a work-readiness program for students in years 9 and 10 students and mock interview day for year 10.

On Friday year 12 students will take part in the work-readiness program.

Teacher Jaclyn Thompson said the programs were run in co-ordination with the Beacon Foundation.

“Community members gave up time to assist in preparing our students for the real world,” she said.

“This is extremely important with unemployment rates currently sitting very high.

“We would like to thank the generosity of our business guests for giving up their valuable time to assist students in pursuing further education and training later in life.”

Ms Thompson said the students took the workshops seriously.

“In the lead-up students had to prepare a resume and refine their interview skills,” she said.

“When they arrive on the day they arrive in their interview outfit and present themselves to community business members as if they are actually sitting a real interview.

“Students get marked on their presentation, communication skills, ability to respond to interview questions and their resume.”

Year 10 student Logan Kendall said she had helped other students to find topics that they could discuss without being nervous.

“My role was to help and provide my fellow year 10 students with support to complete their resumes,” she said.

“I think that today has helped me with my nerves and also knowing how to portray myself for future interviews.

“Personally, I feel that my own interview went well and the discussion flowed nicely. Overall, I think that we both benefited from the discussion.”
